Kwame ‘Beans’ Shakur

Born in Terre Haute, Indiana, Kwame ‘Lil Beans’ Shakur is a New Afrikan Revolutionary Nationalist currently held captive in the Indiana Department of Correction. Serving 110 years after being railroaded by corrupt prosecution hand in hand with his own defense attorney, Kwame has spent his time revolutionizing himself and serving his fellow prisoners as well as his Terre Haute community.

In his own words he has transformed from the criminal lumpen mentality to the revolutionary class conscious mentality with the help of N.A.L.C. Co-founder Shaka Shakur. The N.A.L.C., under his leadership has carried on an active resistance to the colonial and genocidal prison institution. He has guided the N.A.L.C. In branching its activity from beyond the walls and into the New Afrikan community outside as well. He has spent the last three years organizing for New Afrikan self- determination in Terre Haute and is currently spearheading an effort to build a new social center in his old neighborhood.

Shaka Shakur

Born in Gary, Indiana, Shaka Shakur has been a warrior for liberation his entire adult life. Only sixteen years old when he was first incarcerated, Shaka grew up amongst the ranks of some of the leading New Afrikan revolutionaries of his day. In a time of immense struggle not only in Indiana but throughout the country as supermax facilities became the norm for state and federal DOC’s, Shaka was instrumental in exposing the corruption and human rights abuses in Indiana State Prison, Pendleton, and MCC-Westville. He is now a “domestic exile” having been in 2018 transferred by the IDOC to the Virginia Department of Corrections in order to cut him off from his base of support. They have failed to slow him down, however. He remains a champion of justice, fighting both his own exile and for the rights of prisoners in both Indiana and Virginia.
